One death in shooting at South Carolina State University (USA)

Washington, January 24 (Xinhua News Agency) - During the afternoon of January 24, campus shootings occurred at South Carolina State University, killing one student. The police are pursuing four suspects.

South Carolina State University released a statement saying that police received a report around 1:30 p.m. (local time) and immediately rushed to an apartment on campus. They acknowledged that a local shooting had occurred and one university student was shot.

The university confirmed that the injured student was male and that he had died, but did not disclose his identity.

According to reports, eyewitnesses on site had confirmed that there were four suspects that had left the university when the police arrived on campus. Police are following leads to pursue suspects.

After the shooting, South Carolina State University immediately alerted students, faculty, and staff to stay safe through SMS, Twitter, etc. The university remained in lockdown until the early evening before the lockdown order was lifted. Police have confirmed that the students and campus near the incident are currently secure and remind people to notify the police immediately if they see any suspicious individuals.

South Carolina State University has approximately 3,200 enlisted students. It is located in Orangeburg, which is about 60 km from Columbia, the state capital of South Carolina.
